A Rock at rest

Today our family lost a patriarch. William “Rocky” Burke, Robyn’s paternal grandfather, passed away.

There was a just beauty to Rocky’s life after Katrina erased his home in coastal Mississippi. The hurricane made obvious what anyone who knew Rocky already understood: he was a man who put the cares of the world a distant second to the people he loved. With all his earthly possessions washed away Rocky was still a complete man — wholly cared for by the love of and for his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.

Goodbye, Rock. Thank you for being such a massive, influential part of our lives. Many have said that the mold was broken after you were made, but your family wants too badly to cast our own selves in it for that to happen.

A memorial service will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Kenner, Louisiana on October 2.
